Two-goal Henry sparks Arsenal win
LONDON, England -- Thierry Henry scored both as Arsenal eased into the Champions League last eight with a 2-0 win -- and a 5-2 aggregate triumph -- against Spain's Celta Vigo.
The victory also kept Arsene Wenger's men on course for a season's treble with the Londoners leading the Premiership and in the semifinals of the FA Cup.
Henry opened the scoring after 14 minutes when he latched on to a pass from Dennis Bergkamp and wrapped it up 20 minutes later.
The French international made no mistake with a low, right-footed shot past Celta goalkeeper Pablo Cavallero to register his first Champions League goal at Highbury in 10 matches.
Argentinian Cavallero had been picked to play by coach Radomir Antic despite breaking his nose in the first leg two weeks ago.
Henry's second came after Dutch forward Bergkamp held the ball up before releasing Freddie Ljungberg.
The Swede's cross was deflected by Fernando Caceres and the ball fell kindly to an unmarked Henry who beat Cavallero from close range.
Henry was then denied a first-half hat-trick just before the interval when Cavallero pulled off a smart save.
Arsenal stayed in charge in the second period and Celta's night went from bad to worse in the 74th minute when substitute Pablo Contreras was red-carded for a foul on Jose Antonio Reyes who had also come off the bench.
"Overall I think what is remarkable tonight is not that we have won the game but that we have won at Celta Vigo and bounced back by being nearly out of the Champions League and now we are in the last eight," said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
Wenger also paid tribute to Henry, but added it was because he was so well supported by the rest of the team.
"He was given great balls today and scored goals and he'll get the headlines. We know he can score goals and goalscorers always get the headlines."
