SOFIA, Bulgaria (Reuters) -- Liverpool eased into the UEFA Cup fourth round with a 4-2 win over Levski Sofia, sealing a 6-2 aggregate third round victory.
The English side relieved the pressure on coach Gerard Houllier with an impressive display, roaring into a 2-0 lead within 11 minutes through goals by Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen.
The hosts hit back to level through Georgi Ivanov and Sasha Simonovic but German midfielder Dietmar Hamann restored Liverpool's advantage with a header before halftime.
Finnish defender Sami Hyypia headed the 2001 UEFA Cup winners' fourth goal midway through the second half to further cheer Houllier, who received a death threat last month following disappointing results that have left Liverpool sixth in the Premier League table.
"It (the death threat) does not affect my passion for my job," Houllier told reporters.
"It doesn't affect my love for the city, my affection for the people of Liverpool and the fans who today were absolutely phenomenal."
"I think we played good football. There were some great moves, one-touch football, the midfield was extremely good when we had the ball.
"Owen scored a very important goal, he worked extremely hard for the team, his work rate was phenomenal."
