BARCELONA, Spain (Reuters) -- Barcelona continued their fine run of form as they eased to a 2-1 victory over Denmark's Brondby to complete 3-1 aggregate win, taking them into the last 16 of the UEFA Cup.
The Catalans, who have won their last six league matches on the trot, gradually picked holes in the crowded Brondby defense.
They scored their first goal just after the half hour mark when winger Luis Garcia curled the ball past keeper Karim Zaza with a first-time shot.
Javier Saviola had split open the defense with a neat through-ball from just outside the area.
Dutch midfielder Philip Cocu made it 2-0 just before the break, getting ahead of his marker after a Giovanni van Bronckhorst corner and scoring with a powerful close-range header.
Barca, who had only conceded one goal in their five previous UEFA Cup matches, came close to extending their lead on several occasions after the break, Garcia skimming the post with a 20-meter curler and Saviola forcing a fine reflex save from Zaza.
Brondby, who had rarely given the Barca keeper Victor Valdes anything to worry about, grabbed a late consolation when defender Per Nielsen headed in after a corner seven minutes from time.
