Ajax extend lead with Twente win
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (Reuters) -- Ajax Amsterdam moved six points clear at the top of the Dutch first division as an early Julien Escude goal earned a 1-0 win over Twente Enschede.
With champions PSV Eindhoven surprisingly beaten 3-2 at Heerenveen on Saturday, Ajax top the standings with 52 points after 20 matches.
PSV, who have played a game more, are on 52, while third-placed AZ Alkmaar are 10 points behind Ajax after a 2-1 home win over RBC Roosendaal.
Feyenoord, in fourth, were not in action this weekend.
Ajax made a flying start against Twente when Escude headed home a Wesley Sneijder corner on 12 minutes but the leaders failed to hit top gear.
