Wil's coach and manager quit club
GENEVA, Switzerland (Reuters) -- FC Wil coach Joachim Mueller and general manager Fredy Strasser have left the club after Sunday's 2-0 home defeat against FC Thun.
Mueller handed in his resignation following after-match comments by club president Igor Belanow, who said that nobody at the club knew anything about football.
" I cannot and do not want to continue on these terms," said Mueller who was only appointed on December 10.
"A further co-operation with our Ukrainian investors isn't possible. Already on my third day at the club I knew that I wouldn't have a say in what players to buy and I only stayed to lessen the pressure on the players," Mueller told Swiss TV.
Strasser had been in his job for two weeks and was still waiting to receive a contract.
"I cannot stand behind a club who continues to target expensive players while suffering from such severe financial difficulties," Strasser said.
Wil recently received a donation of 150,000 Swiss francs ($121,300) from their Ukrainian investors but are still struggling to balance their books.
The club are some five million Swiss francs in debt and have been asked by the license commission of the Swiss Football League to provide evidence of their current financial status.
Wil are second from bottom in the first division with 17 points, one more than Neuchatel Xamax.
