MADRID, Spain -- Real Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz has placed Premier League strikers Thierry Henry and Ruud van Nistelrooy at the top of his summer signing wish list.

In an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca, Queiroz said: "If I had to pick, my preferences would be van Nistelrooy and Henry, who have both reached maturity."

The latest episode of Madrid transfer speculation was sparked in November when club president Florentino Perez said he hoped to sign another "galactico" in the summer.

The Portuguese coach knows van Nistelrooy well from his previous job as Alex Ferguson's assistant at Manchester United, but the Dutchman recently signed a new contract until 2008.

Madrid's latest star signing -- England midfielder David Beckham -- also moved to the Spanish champions from Old Trafford.

On Henry, who has vowed he has no intention of quitting Arsenal, Queiroz said: "The Frenchman is now at the peak of his strengths and abilities, both in terms of taking chances and when he releases the ball."

But Queiroz quashed speculation linking Madrid with Roma playmaker Francesco Totti.

"At present I don't think Totti is what Madrid need," he said.

Marca also quoted Totti as saying: "I won't leave Roma. I am happy here and I have a contract until the end of 2006."

Queiroz also warned about the dangers of allowing transfer speculation to distract him from his job.

"We have to keep our eyes shut and be conscious of our obligations. I think that everyone with a responsibility to Real Madrid should do the same as the players who are being talked about aren't going to bring us any points this season."
