Benfica tributes to tragic Feher
LISBON, Portugal -- Benfica paid tribute to tragic striker Miklos Feher in an emotional 2-0 win over Academica on Tuesday.
It was the Portuguese side's first match since the 24-year-old Hungarian collapsed and died during a league match last month.
Players and officials gathered in the center circle before the match for a minute of silence in front of a capacity 56,000 crowd.
When Zlatko Zahovic scored the opening goal Benfica's players, who wore Feher's name on their shirts, gathered in an embrace and knelt, pointing to the sky to dedicate the goal to their former teammate.
"Feher will always be with us in the locker room and at Benfica," said coach Jose Antonio Camacho.
The cause of Feher's death has yet to be determined.
