Anastasiou joins injury-hit Ajax
AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- Dutch leaders Ajax have signed Greek striker Yannis Anastasiou to boost their attack ahead of Sunday's key league clash with PSV Eindhoven.
The 30-year-old joins the injury-plagued Amsterdam club from Roda JC Kerkrade and is expected to make his debut against the Dutch champions.
Ajax, who lead PSV on goal difference, are missing forwards Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wesley Sonck, Rafael van der Vaart and Jason Culina because of injury.
Anastasiou joined Roda in 2000 and has scored 48 goals in 114 matches, including eight this season.
Roda coach Wiljan Vloet accepted the club had been forced to sell Anastasiou, for an undisclosed fee, before his contract expired at the end of the season.
"That money is badly needed in order for this club to continue playing professional football in Kerkrade," Vloet said.
• AZ Alkmaar have agreed four-year deals with Willem II defenders Joris Mathijsen and Kew Jaliens and midfielder Tarik Sektioui from the end of the season.
