Facchetti named Inter president
MILAN (Reuters) -- Inter Milan have named Giacinto Facchetti as their new president after Massimo Moratti resigned last week under fire from frustrated fans.
Facchetti, previously the club's vice-president and a former Italy international, said his priority was to focus on Inter's coaching set-up.
"It's not enough to want to win, you have to know how to prepare yourself in order to win and, for this reason, the work from Monday to Saturday is important, not just Sunday," Facchetti told Inter's Web site.
Moratti resigned as president of Inter, who are fourth in the standings but trail leaders AC Milan by 13 points, after they lost at home to lowly Empoli earlier this month.
Moratti, who had been at the head of Inter since 1995, nominated Facchetti to replace him but made clear that his majority ownership of the club was not under discussion.
Inter have not won the Italian title since 1989 and Moratti's only return on the heavy investments he made in the transfer market was a 1998 UEFA Cup triumph.
Facchetti, unlike most Serie A presidents, is not a businessman but he was one of the club's most popular and successful players.
