AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (Reuters) -- Struggling Dutch club Volendam have sacked coach Henk Wisman, claiming e showed no confidence in his squad.

Wisman, who has been at Volendam since 1999, led the club to promotion via the playoffs last season but his team are 17th in the 18-team league and lost 4-0 at home to RKC Waalwijk on Wednesday.

His assistant Johan Steur, a former player, will take over for the rest of the season starting with Sunday's match at Groningen.

The board said Wisman had shown a lack of confidence in his squad and had also criticized the club in public.
