Underdogs Alaves in the semifinals
MADRID, Spain (Reuters) -- Second division Alaves earned a semifinal place in Spain's King's Cup, despite a 1-0 defeat at Primera Liga opponents Celta Vigo on Wednesday.
The result gave the Basque side a 4-3 aggregate win over the troubled Galician side, who earlier said Radomir Antic will succeed sacked coach Miguel Angel Lotina.
Celta enjoyed a host of good chances, but only managed to get the ball in the net when Alaves keeper Juan Pablo fumbled a Gustavo Lopez free kick midway through the second half.
Sevilla put behind them the sale of their talented forward Jose Antonio Reyes to Arsenal by booking their place in the last four, completing an emphatic 6-1 aggregate victory over Atletico Madrid with a 2-1 win at the Calderon.
In the late match Real Madrid won a bad-tempered second leg 2-1 in Valencia, which puts them into the semis 5-1 on aggregate.
Valencia's faint hopes of overturning the deficit suffered in Madrid received a huge blow after just 13 minutes, when Ronaldo set up Raul to open the scoring.
All that remained to be decided was whether Valencia would manage to score their first goal in four games.
They finally did so 15 minutes from time, when substitute Xisco Munoz turned in a rebound, but by then, half of the 45,000 disappointed crowd had already left.
Zinedine Zidane then came off the bench and won the game for Real with a last-minute free-kick.
