Striker Sychev signs for Lokomotiv
MOSCOW, Russia (Reuters) -- Lokomotiv Moscow have signed striker Dmitry Sychev from French side Marseille on a four-year contract, the Russian Premier League club said.
The 20-year-old Russian international will join his new teammates in Germany, where they are training for the new season.
Contract details were not disclosed but media reported the transfer fee was around 3.7 million euros ($4.65m). "It's an ideal move for the club and player," said Lokomotiv coach Yuri Syomin.
Sychev is Lokomotiv's first major signing in the close season, although he is ineligible to play in the Champions League after representing Marseille during 2003-04.
Lokomotiv, who left for their second pre-season training camp in Germany on Wednesday, face Monaco in the Champions League first knockout round on February 24 and March 10.
Sychev joined French Ligue 1 club Marseille one year ago from Spartak Moscow in a move complicated by the fact that Ukrainian club Dynamo Kiev said he had also agreed to join them.
Russia's best player at the 2002 World Cup, Sychev served a four-month ban later that year after walking out on Spartak, accusing the club of failing to pay a $10,000 signing bonus.
