Coach Bajevic has quit AEK Athens
ATHENS, Greece (Reuters) -- AEK Athens are looking for a new manager after Serbian coach Dusan Bajevic refused to change his mind after quitting.
Bajevic stormed out of the Athens team's 4-0 win over Iraklis before halftime on Sunday after a group of AEK supporters unveiled a banner calling him a "traitor."
A section of the club's fans have never forgiven the coach for leaving them in 1996 to join local rivals Olympiakos.
They have relentlessly barracked him regardless of the team's form or results since his return two seasons ago.
"I can't go on, I can't get past this," Bajevic told reporters at the club's training ground on Monday after telling the squad and chairman of his resignation.
Players and officials had made an appeal earlier in the day for him to reverse his decision.
"What can we do? He's not changing his mind and he's not staying," said Greece international Vassilis Tsartas.
During Bajevic's second spell the club has finished second and third in the league and enjoyed an unbeaten campaign in the Champions League last term, drawing all their matches.
