Terry's header floors Scarborough
SCARBOROUGH, England -- Chelsea's multi-millionaires scraped past non-league Scarborough 1-0 in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Chelsea, third in the Premier League moved into the last 16 with a 10th minute goal, headed home by England defender John Terry.
The expected goal deluge did not follow as the Londoners' $202.6 million squad wasted a series of chances against Scarborough's $3,684 line-up.
Scarborough had a fine chance of forcing a replay 10 minutes from time, but Colin Cryan headed straight at Chelsea keeper Carlo Cudicini. Two minutes later Chelsea defender William Gallas handled in the box, but referee Barry Knight ignored Scarborough's appeals for a penalty.
Scarborough boss Russell Slade was philosophical about the penalty that never was.
"For me it was an obvious penalty. I'm slightly biased but it was clear to me. He looked like he handled but it wasn't to be.
"We've done ourselves no harm today. It's an emotional dressing room. Everyone is patting each other on the back. They are all proud."
Boro's battling performance won praise from Terry.
"We had our chances but at the end of the day they had a lot of pressure and made it difficult for us," said Terry.
Scarborough's Conference rivals Telford United were unable to play their scheduled home tie against Millwall because of a waterlogged pitch.
It was provisionally rearranged for Tuesday.
