MADRID, Spain -- David Beckham says his red card for Real Madrid during Wednesday's Spanish Cup quarterfinal 3-0 win over Valencia wouldn't have happened in England.
Beckham picked up a yellow card for dissent and was then dismissed for a foul on Pablo Aimar with three minutes left.
"There are things you can get away with in the Premier League that you can't do here. I wouldn't have got sent off in England, but I have no qualms with the referee, it's his decision," said Beckham.
"I was happy with the result but disappointed with the sending off. I didn't think it was deserved because I was running back and I just clipped his ankle as I ran back with him and the referee decided it was another card."
Despite his dismissal Beckham was praised for his sportsmanship by Spain's Marca newspaper after earlier intervening to prevent Valencia's Carlos Marchena from being booked following his foul on the England captain.
"A ball to the wing gave David Beckham the chance to demonstrate he is a complete Knight of the British Empire," the newspaper said.
Beckham will be suspended for the second leg next Thursday.
Real's Brazilian striker Ronaldo is doubtful for his side's Liga clash with Villarreal on Saturday after suffering a thigh strain against Valencia.
