Rangers fail to impress in victory
GLASGOW, Scotland -- Rangers made a minor dent in Celtic's massive Scottish Premier League supremacy when they beat Motherwell 1-0 at Ibrox.
Rangers made hard work of it, however, with the breakthrough coming only eight minutes from time, when Shota Arveladze hit his 14th goal of the season to take the champions to 47 points.
Leaders Celtic, on 55, can restore their 11-point advantage on Sunday when they visit third-placed Hearts.
"A win's a win but it was a difficult game and Shota scored a brilliant goal," said Rangers coach Alex McLeish.
Barry Smith scored a last-minute goal to give second-last Dundee a precious 2-1 away win over bottom side Partick Thistle.
In other matches, Livingston beat Hibernian 1-0 and Billy Dodds scored a last-minute penalty as Dundee United beat Aberdeen 3-2.
