Madrid linked with unsettled Butt
MADRID, Spain -- Unsettled Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt has been linked with a move to Spanish champions Real Madrid.
The 29-year-old England international asked for a transfer this week and had been expected to move to another Premier League club.
But Spain's Marca newspaper says David Beckham alerted Real to the availability of his former teammate.
Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz, a former assistant to United coach Alex Ferguson, refused to comment on the transfer speculation.
"I am not a coach who lives off fantasies," said Queiroz.
"I am not going to waste time with this kind of matter. We have some youngsters coming through who are counting on getting a crack of the whip."
Meanwhile Real's Brazilian striker Ronaldo has denied reports that he is planning a return to Inter Milan.
"They're stupid reports that deserve no comment," Ronaldo told Spanish news agency Efe.
"I'm happy in Madrid and I hope I can stay here for a long time. The rumors have arisen to disturb Madrid. They annoy me and are bad for the team."
