PARIS, France -- Runaway French leaders Monaco dropped two points as they were held to a goalless draw by Bastia but chasing Paris Saint Germain wasted the chance to make up some ground.
The Mediterranean club were frustrated by stubborn Corsican defending, with Jerome Rothen going closest with a freekick against the crossbar on 72 minutes.
Second-placed PSG also drew 0-0 at Metz, failing to trim Monaco's seven-point lead.
"You can't win them all," said Monaco captain Ludovic Giuly. "We played in very difficult conditions and a draw is a good result."
Lyon closed the gap on PSG to one point with a 3-0 win over Montpellier. Vikash Dhorasoo, Peguy Luyindula and Julien Viale were all on target for the defending champions.
Olivier Kapo and Djibril Cisse scored for fourth-placed Auxerre in their 2-0 win over Strasbourg.
In other matches, Alexander Frei scored twice for Rennes in a 4-0 win over Sochaux, Bordeaux beat Guingamp 2-0, Le Mans inflicted Nice's first home defeat of the season 1-0, Nantes hammered Ajaccio 4-0 and Toulouse climbed off the bottom of the table with a 1-0 win over Lille, relegating Guingamp to last place.
