OSLO, Norway -- Roma striker John Carew is set to end his boycott of the Norway national team after talks with new coach Aage Hareide in Rome on Thursday.
The 24-year-old was suspended for one game after brawling with a teammate in September -- and then refused to play in later games, or as long as Nils Johan Semb continued in charge.
Semb stepped down after Norway failed to reach the Euro 2004 finals, and was replaced by Hareide from January 1st.
Hareide, 50, has been making the rounds of Norwegian internationals who have declined national team spots in hopes of wooing them back.
His meeting with Carew in Rome appeared to be a clear success.
"With Hareide, we have a new way of thinking," Carew told Norway's largest newspaper, Verdens Gang. "This is exciting, and I am looking forward to getting started with the national team again."
Carew punched teammate John Arne Riise during a heated argument at a team practice session in September.
He was suspended for the game with Portugal and that led to a lingering dispute between the player and Semb.
Carew has scored 10 goals in 36 matches for the national team.
