MARSEILLE, France -- Coach Alain Perrin has parted company with French side Marseille and been replaced by youth coach Jose Anigo, the club announced on Wednesday.
"I've decided to appoint a new coach. It's Jose Anigo and he'll be the new coach from tomorrow," club president Christophe Bouchet confirmed.
Perrin, 47, joined the club in 2002, but has come under fire following a string of poor results with the club notching up nine defeats in their last 15 games.
That has left Marseille sixth in the First Division, 15 points behind leaders Monaco.
"I have given him more support than any Marseille president has ever supported a coach, but the drive had gone," said Bouchet who added that Perrin might stay at the club in another capacity.
Marseille-born Anigo, 42, started his career with his local club as a defender in 1980 and played for them for seven years before joining Second Division Nimes.
He retired as a player in 1992 with Third Division Endoume where he started his coaching career.
Anigo joined Marseille as a youth trainer in 1997, and has been a key member of the staff at their youth development centre since October 2001.
Marseille, the 1993 European champions, won their last league title the same year but had the title stripped after the match-fixing scandal which rocked European football.
