Ravenelli goes back for the future
ROME, Italy -- Fabrizio Ravanelli, the former Juventus and Italy striker, has returned to his home city to play for struggling Serie A Perugia, the club announced on its official website on Wednesday.
The 35-year-old, out of work since his contract with Dundee was terminated when the Scottish side filed for bankruptcy in November, has signed a six-month contract with Perugia.
European Cup winner Ravanelli, who also played for Middlesbrough and Derby County in the Premiership, was born and raised in the small Umbrian city.
He made his professional debut for Perugia in the 1986-87 season when they languished in the fourth division.
Now they are established members of the top-flight but face the threat of relegation having slumped to 15th place after failing to win any of their 16 league matches this season.
