Broos extension boosts Anderlecht
BRUSSELS, Belgium (Reuters) -- Anderlecht coach Hugo Broos has agreed a two-year deal extension that keeps him at the Belgian club until the end of the 2005/2006 season.
The 51-year-old arrived at Anderlecht in 2002 and his team had an eight-point lead over Standard Liege at the top of the First Division going into the winter break.
"A year ago, I was criticized for my work outside the club but also inside the club," said Broos. "Staying for another couple of years means that Anderlecht are going well."
Broos won two Belgian titles and two Belgian Cups with Club Bruges in a six-year spell from 1991-1997.
"The signing is important for the sports future of the club," said Herman Van Holsbeeck, the new general manager of Anderlecht.
"Our goal is to have everybody in the club working in the same direction, in order to become regular European contenders."
Anderlecht, who were knocked out of the Champions League after the group stage last year, play their first league match after the winter break at Royal Antwerp on Sunday.
