Deportivo's Silva to quit in 2005
MADRID, Spain (Reuters) -- Deportivo Coruna midfielder Mauro Silva will retire at the end of next season after reaching an agreement to extend his contract until 2005.
The 36-year-old former Brazilian international said he had always dreamed of ending his career at the Spanish club.
"The Deportivo shirt will be the last one I will wear as a footballer," said Mauro, who has been with the club for 12 seasons.
"I think that after all that La Coruna, Deportivo and the fans have given me, it was best for me to retire here at this club. It would be great to retire with one or two more titles under my belt if possible."
Club president Augusto Cesar Lendoiro praised Mauro, a World Cup winner in 1994, for his loyal service.
"There are very few players around who have played at such a high level for the same club for so many years," said Lendoiro.
"It is typical of him not to want to delay his retirement so that he can ensure he will still be able to give of his best right until the end."
