Veron threatened by armed burglar
LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Chelsea's Argentine midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron was threatened by a machete-wielding burglar at his London home at the weekend, police sources said on Monday.
Richmond Magistrates Court confirmed that a 35-year-old builder had appeared, charged with aggravated burglary for allegedly breaking into a house on Sunday morning.
The address of the house in court records matches that of Veron's luxury home.
Police sources said residents reported a burglar had climbed through the window near dawn and threatened them, demanding jewelry.
Chelsea made no comment on the incident.
Veron, who has struggled with injuries this season, cost Chelsea $27.79 million from Manchester United in August as part of new billionaire owner Roman Abramovich's spending spree.
