LONDON, England -- Arsenal face a striker shortage after Jeremie Aliadiere limped out of their 4-1 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday.
The young Frenchman suffered a knee ligament injury and joins Dennis Bergkamp and Sylvain Wiltord on the treatment table.
Meanwhile Kanu is set to join Nigeria for the African Nations Cup next week, leaving Thierry Henry as Arsenal's only first team striker.
"Jeremie's injury is a blow for us," said Wenger. "I have good young players and at some stage you have to give them a chance and I'm glad today I gave Jeremie a chance, despite his injury."
Wenger said he hoped that Kanu would be available for next weekend's clash with Aston Villa, while Bergkamp and Wiltord are both expected to be available in two weeks.
