PARIS, France -- Ludovic Giuly scored twice as French leaders Monaco stretched their advantage at the top of the table with a 3-0 win over champions Lyon.
Giuly struck on 34 minutes and added his second from the penalty spot in the last minute, taking his tally for the season to 14 goals.
Spanish striker Fernando Morientes was also on target for Monaco, who opened a 10-point gap on second-placed Lyon.
Paris Saint Germain could cut that lead to seven points, and overtake Lyon, by beating Lille on Saturday.
"It's a good result but there's still a long way to go," said Monaco coach Didier Deschamps, whose side claimed their 14th win in 19 league games.
"This was an important win for our morale. Lyon were technically superior to us, we're capable of better."
Monaco were gifted the lead following a mistake by Lyon defender Anthony Reveillere who failed to spot Giuly lurking as he attempted to steer a header back to goalkeeper Gregory Coupet.
Giuly pounced on the loose ball and lifted it over the stranded Coupet.
Morientes claimed his eighth goal of the season on 48 minutes with a header from Jerome Rothen's corner.
Lyon came close to getting back in the game as first Monaco keeper Flavio Roma was forced to punch away Juninho's swerving freekick on 55 minutes and Florent Malouda then saw his effort cleared off the line.
But Giuly wrapped up the match in the last minute when Morientes was brought down in the penalty area by Brazilian defender Edmilson.
