Marseille bid to end PSG cup jinx
PARIS, France (Reuters) -- Olympique Marseille will bid to end a run of four defeats against Paris St Germain when the two heavyweights play in the second round of the French Cup for the second season in a row.
The clash at the Stade Velodrome was the highlight of Tuesday's draw which also threw up two other top division matches -- cup holders AJ Auxerre v Montpellier and bottom club Toulouse v Nice.
Last season PSG beat Marseille 2-1 after extra time in the French capital and were also victorious in both league encounters with their southern rivals.
Marseille, who have won the cup 10 times but not since 1989, also lost 1-0 at home to PSG this season in the league match on November 30, when Fabrice Fiorese scored a last-minute winner.
But Marseille president Christophe Bouchet was pleased with the draw.
"It's the worst possible draw for PSG," he said. "We won't have any problem motivating ourselves because in the last league game we had them by the throat. It's a real showdown."
Last season's losing finalists PSG only reached the second round after recovering from 2-0 down with a minute left against second division Troyes to win 3-2 after extra time.
League leaders AS Monaco, champions Olympique Lyon and RC Lens all face tricky away ties against teams from division three.
Monaco visit Valenciennes, Lyon face Bourg-Peronnas and Lens take on Dijon.
Girondins Bordeaux face nearby amateur club Bayonne who shocked Ligue 1 side En Avant Guingamp in the first round. Nantes visit another amateur team, Fontenay-le-Comte.
Plabennec, a fifth-tier team and the lowest ranked side left in the competition, visit second division Amiens.
Matches will be played on January 24 and 25.
