United confirm interest in Robben
LONDON, England -- PSV Eindhoven's Dutch international striker Arjen Robben is a target for English champions Manchester United, manager Alex Ferguson confirmed on Sunday.
Talks have already begun with the Dutch first division side and the 19-year-old visited Old Trafford on Friday. Real Madrid are also chasing the rising young star.
"We are interested in him. Nothing's been finalized but we hope to do business with PSV," Ferguson told The Mail on Sunday.
Robben's mother, Marjo, claimed her son was not interested in a move to Spain, despite Real's interest.
"The things he thinks about when he has to make the final decision on his new club is who is the manager, how does he work with the players, will he have a chance to compete with the current players in the squad and what is the club culture like," she said.
"Those things mean more to my son than any kind of money. Look at Real Madrid. What would be the point of signing for them?
"He would arrive in a squad full of big names and big stars, where the president swaps his top names every summer like second hand cars.
"Every year he brings in more and more big name players. That does not appeal to us," she said.
United, who want to sign a striker to support Ruud van Nistelrooy, have also been linked with Fulham's Louis Saha and Leeds' Mark Viduka.
