Minor changes for F1 qualifying
PARIS, France -- Formula One's governing body, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), has agreed to minor changes to the qualifying format for next week's Bahrain Grand Prix.
The new system introduced this season, in which two back-to back sessions are held on Saturday afternoon, has been slammed as boring by broadcasters and drivers.
The first session will now start at 1300 local time, an hour earlier than previously, with the second scheduled to start an hour later.
The new fixed start times will at least allow television coverage to join proceedings for the decisive second session.
Advertising breaks scheduled into the first session could also be cut to speed up proceedings.
The changes were agreed by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council at a meeting in Paris.
