Barkley set to start for England
LONDON, England -- -- Olly Barkley will make his first start for England in Saturday's Six Nations clash with Wales after Paul Grayson was ruled out by a training injury.
The Bath flyhalf, who has won three caps as a replacement, is prefered by England coach Clive Woodward to the more experienced Mike Catt.
Grayson, who played the first three matches of the series, suffered a calf strain in training on Tuesday.
England's first choice, Jonny Wilkinson, has been unavailable for the world champions since last year's Rugby World Cup.
Woodward said Barkley's kicking abilities had influenced his decision to hand him his full debut in a game England must win after losing to Ireland.
"I don't think it's a gamble," said Woodward.
"It's a gamble to go in without a recognized goal kicker. Barkley was always going to be my choice if Grayson was out. It's a huge challenge for him but I think he's up to it."
If England beat the Welsh at Twickenham their Six Nations defense will likely hinge on beating France in Paris next weekend in a re-match of their World Cup semifinal.
Scotland make three changes to their team to face France in Edinburgh on Sunday.Derrick Lee replaces Ben Hinshelwood at fullback, Andy Henderson comes in for Brendan Laney at inside center and Cameron Mather returns from injury at inside flanker in place of Allister Hogg.
