Stringer has thumb put in plaster

DUBLIN, Ireland -- Irish scrumhalf Peter Stringer has had his injured thumb put in plaster, but he should be fit for his side's Six Nations match against Italy on March 20.
Stringer damaged a tendon in his right thumb during Ireland's shock defeat of England at Twickenham on Saturday.
He will wear the cast for a week before a decision is made on his availability for the clash against Italy at Lansdowne Road.
"The prognosis is good," said coach Eddie O'Sullivan. "The plaster is to immobilise the thumb and give it a better chance of recovery. We remain hopeful that he will be fit to play."
