Mauresmo out of Pacific Life event

LONDON, England -- France's Amelie Mauresmo has pulled out of next week's $2.1m Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells because of a continuing back injury.
World number three Mauresmo, a quarter-finalist last year at the event, was scheduled to make her third appearance at the tournament.
"I am truly disappointed that I will have to miss the tournament. The setting at Indian Wells is one of the most beautiful in the world," she said.
"Unfortunately, I will have to let another two weeks pass before I am ready for competition," she added.
Mauresmo's next scheduled event is the NASDAQ-100 Open, which starts on March 24 in Miami.
"I am confident we have made a lot of progress and I feel stronger every day. I wish the Pacific Life Open, its organisers, the players and all the fans the best of luck."
The back injury caused a tearful Mauresmo to pull out of the Australian Open quarter-finals in January without hitting a ball. She has not played competitively since then.
