Kostelic undergoes thyroid surgery
Zagreb, CROATIA -- Injury-plagued Croatian skiing champion Janica Kostelic has undergone surgery on her thyroid gland.
Croatian team spokesman Ozren Mueller confirmed that the operation had been successfully completed.
"The surgery is over, everything went well and Janica has woken up," said Mueller.
The 22-year-old won her second overall World Cup title last year but has also required four knee operations since then and is set to miss the whole of the current season.
Kostelic is expected to be able to start training again in four or five weeks, although she is unlikely to return to racing before the end of the season in mid-March.
