Kostelic set for further surgery
ZAGREB, Croatia -- Injury-plagued skiing champion Janica Kostelic is to undergo surgery this week for a thyroid problem that has kept her off the World Cup circuit for an entire season.
The 22-year-old Croatian won her second overall World Cup title last year but has also required four knee operations since then.
"Janica will check into hospital today and undergo surgery this week," Croatian team spokesman Ozren Mueller told Reuters.
Kostelic is expected to be able to start training again in four or five weeks, although she is unlikely to return to racing before the end of the season in mid-March.
