Snowfall wrecks World Cup downhill
WENGEN, Switzerland -- Heavy snowfall on the Lauberhorn saw the cancellation of Thursday's training run and the postponement of Friday's World Cup downhill race, organizers said.
Under International Ski Federation (FIS) regulations competitors must have at least one training run before a downhill race can go ahead.
Friday's men's downhill race was moved to Wengen after being postponed twice this season, first at Bormio and then at Chamonix.
The FIS later announced that it would try again to run the event, on January 22 in the Austrian resort of Kitzbuehel, which is already due to host three other World Cup races.
Wengen is scheduled to host its own classic downhill on Saturday as well as a slalom on Sunday.
But the weather forecast is not good, making training on Friday unlikely and also threatening Saturday's race.
