Belgian Leinders tests for Jordan
LONDON, England (Reuters) -- Belgian Bas Leinders will drive in the Jordan Formula One car at a test session in Barcelona next week.
The 28-year-old, who raced in the Nissan World Series last year, will get his first drive in a F1 car on January 21, the second of four days of Jordan's first test session this year.
Jordan are the only team with no drivers announced for the new season starting on March 7 in Australia and Leinders is one of "many candidates" being looked at for the role of test driver.
"I'm very happy that Jordan have given me the opportunity to do my first Formula One test," said Leinders.
"I, along with all Belgians, am looking forward to this. Hopefully we can do a good job and see what the future brings."
Team boss Eddie Jordan said: "I'm pleased to give Bas Leinders this opportunity in F1. He has proved himself to be a talented and persistent driver in the junior categories and this chance is well deserved."
