Pakistan draw level in New Zealand
QUEENSTOWN, New Zealand -- Pakistan beat New Zealand by six wickets in their second one-day match to level the five match series 1-1.
Yousuf Youhana finished on 88 not out and shared a 143-run third wicket partnership with opener Imran Farhat as the tourists, replying to New Zealand's 235-8, reached 236-4 in 47 overs.
Farhat was finally dismissed by Daniel Vettori for 87 with Pakistan within sight of victory.
"Those two very good players gave us a one-day batting lesson," said New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming.
"They took the pressure off themselves and put it right on us. They seemed able to score runs at will."
Pakistan had looked vulnerable when Yasir Hameed and Saleem Elahi were both dismissed cheaply, but Youhana steadied their innings.
"We expect a lot from him and we need him to take responsibility," said Pakistan coach Javed Miandad.
"We weren't disappointed today and I hope his form can continue for the rest of the series."
The highlight of New Zealand's innings was a 91-run eighth wicket stand between Jacob Oram and Brendon McCullum. Oram was finally out for 54, bowled by Mohammad Sami, while McCullum finished 56 not out.
• All-rounder Andre Adams has been released from New Zealand's squad for the third one-day match against Pakistan in Christchurch on Saturday.
