Zonta has surprise Four Hills win
INNSBRUCK, Austria - - Slovenia's Peter Zonta was the surprise winner of the third leg of the Four Hills ski jump series on Sunday.
Zonta mastered the wildly varying wind conditions on the K120 hill in Austria to achieve his first World Cup victory five days before his 24th birthday.
Finland's Veli-Matti Lindstroem was second with reigning Four Hills champion Janne Ahonen of Finland in third.
Sigurd Pettersen of Norway, who won the first and second legs in the German resorts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Oberstdorf, stays top of the standings after finishing fourth.
But his dream of emulating Sven Hannawald's historic victory in all four events in 2001-2002 has evaporated.
The fourth and final leg takes place in the Austrian resort of Bischofshofen on Tuesday.
Zonta had been lying only eighth after the first jump but unleashed a 128.5 meter effort second time around, half a meter further than his opening attempt.
His main rivals meanwhile generally produced shorter second jumps and Zonta said: "I am very happy to show that I can compete with the best."
