ROME, Italy -- AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta has been ruled out of next week's crunch Serie A match away to leaders Roma.
The 27-year-old Italy international has been recovering from knee surgery he underwent before Christmas and is still a fortnight away from match fitness.
"My knee is feeling a lot better, but I still have to start running and therefore have to wait a bit," revealed Nesta.
"I should be back on January 14 when we play in the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup (against Roma)."
European champions Milan are six points behind Roma but have played a game less than Fabio Capello's men.
The top-of-the-table clash takes place at the Olympic stadium on Tuesday evening.
