LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -- New York Comptroller Alan Hevesi has called on Walt Disney Co. to replace Chief Executive and Chairman Michael Eisner and said the state retirement fund would not support Eisner's reelection to the board next week.
"Under Michael Eisner's management, Disney has not performed well over the last several years," Hevesi said in a written statement Thursday.
"I call on Disney directors to separate the positions of chairman and chief executive and to replace Mr. Eisner as soon as possible," he added.
Hevesi is the sole trustee of the New York State Common Retirement Fund, which owns 8.7 million Disney shares with a market value of about $225 million.
