TOKYO, Japan (Reuters) -- Japanese stocks opened higher on Thursday, led by gains in exporters like Sony Corp after the dollar firmed overnight against the yen.
The Nikkei average was up 0.69 percent at 10,731.82 as of 0002 GMT, adding to its 0.14 percent rise in the previous session.
The broader TOPIX index was up 0.60 percent at 1,052.63.
Consumer electronics giant Sony rose 1.36 percent to 4,470 yen after the dollar firmed overnight to just below Monday's three-month high of 109.4 yen following an upbeat statement on the U.S. economy from Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan.
