Kuwait MPs start Halliburton probe
KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait (Reuters) -- Kuwaiti MPs Wednesday lodged a formal request to form a parliamentary committee with broad powers to probe a Kuwait Petroleum Corp. (KPC) contract to supply U.S.-based Halliburton Co. with fuel for the U.S. Army in Iraq.
"We presented the request today for the formation of a parliamentary committee to investigate the Halliburton issue," parliamentarian Naser al-Same told Reuters.
The lawmakers want to investigate if any officials at state-owned KPC, which is in charge of Kuwait's oil sector, have profited illegally from the deal to supply Halliburton through a Kuwaiti subcontractor.
