Program Overview

Wildfires occur naturally and have provided valuable nutrients and reproductive opportunities for forests through the ages. However, humans have affected nature's fire cycle both by starting most of our nation's wildfires and by making great strides in preventing wildfires from spreading. In this CNN Presents Classroom Edition: Summer of Fire, we follow the brave men and women who fight the wildfires that rage out of control. Their efforts save precious land, wildlife, homes and businesses. But the more we try to prevent and control wildfires, the more susceptible our forests become to them.
