Harsh Continent

February 7, 2003
Web posted at: 1:49 AM EST (0649 GMT)

Set your VCR to record CNN Presents: Classroom Edition "Harsh Continent" when it airs commercial-free on Monday, October 6, between 4:00 -5:00 am ET, following People in the News on CNN.

Program Overview

The South Pole is a place of vast extremes: light for half the year, dark for half the year; incomprehensibly frigid even at its warmest; the home to world class science and world class characters. In CNN Presents Classroom Edition: Harsh Continent, we follow the paths of present and past explorers to the harsh continent of Antarctica to understand what it takes to live and work in one of the most remote and strangest regions of the world.

(Teachers: Please be aware that, as this is a real view of life in Antarctica, there is some language some may find objectionable. We suggest you preview.)

Grade Level: 7-12

Subject Areas: Biology, Current Issues, Environmental Studies, Geography, International Relations
