Red Crescent: Israelis killed boy, 5
JERUSALEM (CNN) -- Israeli soldiers shot and killed a 5-year-old boy in the Balata refugee camp in the West Bank on Sunday morning, the Palestine Red Crescent Society said.
Israeli military sources said troops opened fire when an explosive device was thrown at a military vehicle.
The sources said that they were unaware of a child being hit.
The army, which has been operating in the Nablus camp since December 16, will continue to investigate the incident, the sources said.
The army also said soldiers had arrested Adnan Asfour, whom they described as the head of Hamas in Nablus.
Palestinians denied Asfour was involved in Hamas military activity, however, saying he is a political leader and spokesman for the group.
Hamas, considered a terrorist group by the U.S. State Department, has a military wing that has claimed responsibility for terrorist attacks on Israeli targets.
