GAZA CITY (CNN) -- A 10-year-old boy was killed early Friday when Israeli forces fired on what troops described as "three suspicious figures" moving toward Israel's border with northern Gaza near Nahal Oz, Palestinian medical sources said.
Israel had no immediate response, though military sources earlier had acknowledged Israeli Defense Forces firing on three figures.
Also Friday, Israeli troops killed a Palestinian man in the West Bank city of Nablus.
Israeli military officials said Mohammed Smeary, 23, threw explosive devices at troops conducting searches in the city. Palestinian security officials said Smeary was among a group of stone-throwers shot at by troops.
Three other Palestinians died in two separate incidents in Gaza since Thursday.
Overnight, one Palestinian militant was killed and 10 wounded on the outskirts of the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, Palestinian sources said.
An Israeli army spokesman confirmed that an operation took place near the camp and the Kfar Darom settlement. He said the army had received information of a Palestinian militant plan to attack the Jewish settlement.
Israeli military sources said the Palestinians detonated a 100-kilogram (221-pound) explosive device. No Israeli soldiers were injured in the operation, the military sources said.
The Palestinian sources said that the Israeli troops surrounded houses next to the refugee camp and that Apache helicopters fired randomly. After the operation, the Israeli forces left the area, the Palestinians said.
Rockets, tank shells and gunfire were heard early Friday near Gaza City after a night of scattered clashes between Palestinians and Israeli forces.
Witnesses said they heard rockets being launched into Israel from Palestinian territory, with return fire coming from Israeli tanks and troops.
Late Thursday, near Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, the Israeli army fired tank shells at members of Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, killing two and wounding several militants, Palestinian sources said.
An Israeli army spokesman said troops fired after seeing a group of Palestinians moving toward a fence near a Jewish settlement and Sufa crossing, and one of them was carrying a bag.
Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a military offshoot of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement, has carried out numerous attacks against military targets and civilians in Israel and in Israeli settlements in the West Bank and Gaza. The U.S. State Department has designated it a foreign terrorist organization.
