RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (CNN) -- Saudi authorities said Monday they had arrested 16 people and seized weapons and explosives from a terror cell planning attacks in at least three cities.
The Saudi Interior Ministry said the cell was planning attacks on "vital targets and very important installations." Authorities said several of those arrested were nabbed at safe houses where they were hiding.
Saudi authorities were also looking for more members of the cell, the ministry said.
The operation turned up over 20 tons of chemicals that can be used to make explosives. In addition, 72 kilograms of RVX plastic explosive and 981 meters of fuse cord were seized.
At one location, boxes of weapons were found along with shells and other explosives.
Cameras and night scopes were also seized, as were bullet proof vests, maps and information on how to mix the chemicals to make bombs.
In addition, the ministry said it seized propaganda including videotapes and computer disks with information urging Saudis to revolt against the government.
On Sunday, the Saudi government announced it had approved fundraising procedures intended to make sure that charitable groups are not funding terrorist organizations.
