BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- U.S. Marines thwarted an attempted suicide bombing in the Iraqi capital on Friday and discovered two suicide bomb "factories," U.S. military officials said.

A man approached a Marine position in Baghdad carrying a black briefcase, U.S. military officials told CNN's Walter Rodgers. Marines got hold of the briefcase and found that it held explosives, officials said.

Coalition forces, working to crack down on suicide bombing attempts, came across a site in which Iraqis were packing explosives into heavy black leather motorcycle jackets for use in such operations, officials said.

At another site, Iraqi paramilitary fighters were packing explosives into children's dolls for suicide bombings, a U.S. Marine Corps captain said.

A suicide attacker Thursday used a hand grenade to target a U.S. Marine checkpoint in Baghdad, military officials told CNN. Three Marines and one U.S. sailor were wounded. (Full story)
