Strong earthquake rocks Turkey

ANKARA, Turkey (CNN) -- A magnitude 6.5 earthquake early Monday shook southeastern Turkey. There were no initial reports of casualties.

Turkey's Kandilli Observatory & Earthquake Research Institute said the quake hit the Tunceli region at 7:26 a.m. local time. Aftershocks of 3.0, 3.1 and 3.1 were recorded within 12 minutes of the initial 6.5 magnitude quake.

Local officials reported some damage to buildings.
