JERUSALEM (CNN) -- Izzedine al-Qassam, the military wing of Hamas, claimed responsibility Friday for a raid on a home near Hebron in the West Bank that killed an Israeli and for a failed suicide attack near Gaza.

A raft floating near the coastal Jewish settlement of Dugit in Gaza exploded after an Israeli patrol warship fired at it, Israel Defense Forces officials said.

Izzedine al-Qassam said a man who was on the raft died. The group claimed responsibility for the raft and said the man was on his way to carry out a suicide attack against the settlers.

The IDF said the explosives-laden raft was floating toward the settlement when it was spotted by the naval patrol.

IDF: 4-year-old among wounded

The IDF said an Israeli was killed and three others injured Friday when two Palestinian gunmen opened fire at a family home near Hebron.

Someone inside the home fired back, killing one of the gunmen, Israeli military officials said.

The IDF said the gunmen knocked on the door at the end of the family's Shabbat dinner.

When the father opened the door, the gunmen shot and killed him, the IDF said.

One of the gunman entered the house, and wounded the father's 4-year-old daughter and two guests, according to the IDF.

Return fire from inside killed one of the gunmen, who was carrying an M-16 rifle.

The second gunman fled and was being sought, the IDF said.

Nine people, including five children, were inside the home at the time, the IDF said.

Ambulance workers said three others were wounded in addition to the Israeli who was killed.

The incident occurred at Giv'at Ha'harsina, north of Kiryat Arba.
